This notice describes how Almost Time collects and uses data about you. Almost Time is owned by Nobby Knox (Johannesburg, South Africa), referred to as "I", "Me", "Our" or "We". As a customer of this service you're a "User" or "You" according to the terms of service agreement.
Almost Time is a Private Platform
Events, birthdays, anniversaries, and other calendar, person, or relationship related data is private to you and no third party will ever see it without your express permission.
No Third Party Has Access To Your Data
By default, you alone have access to your data. Events and people related data in your calendars are private by default. However, you may choose to share some calendar data with others of your choosing by explicitly sharing calendar data with them, or by making a calendar or person entity public.
We do not sell nor give your data to any third party. There are many ways in which other websites or Services can share your data with third parties. We refuse to do that and decided to take the following additional steps to ensure your private data does not leave our servers. For instance:
- There are no advertisements on the website nor the mobile app. This means advertisers cannot get hold of your data, as there are no advertisers.
- It is an industry standard to use captcha services from third parties to ensure that bots do not access the Service. Incorporating captcha libraries into a system exposes some data to the captcha providers, like Google's reCAPTCHA. We refuse to make use of such captcha services and implemented our own safeguards against bots.
- We do not use third party analytics providers as this could potentially expose data to these providers. We implemented our own analytics and monitoring solutions, keeping everything in-house and hidden from prying eyes.
We Collect Some Data About You
Below, we describe which data we collect from you and how we use it.
- Email address
- You provide your email address as your username when you sign up to the Service. We prefer using your email address as your username as it makes A) account recovery easy, B) mostly guarantees an unique username, making username contention with other users of the Service a non-issue.
- Phone number
- Your phone number is optional. You may choose to provide your phone number to us and we will use it for the sole purpose of sending event reminders to you via SMS, if you choose that option. By default, reminders are sent to your email address.
- Time zone
- We initially determine your current time zone from your web browser or mobile app when you sign up. We use it for the sole purpose of sending timely reminders to you based on your location (time zone) on the planet.
Why are You so Concerned about my Privacy?
We at Almost Time like our privacy and hate it when we have to supply private information to other services, only to find out that advertisers are then showing us targeted ads, or notice that we ended up on all sorts of mailing lists or call centre databases.
We figured that it is possible to run a successful internet Service by charging our Users a modest fee for the use of the Service. It is this fee alone that keeps Almost Time afloat.
This is the approach we wish more businesses would adopt and that is why we do it.
